Why does Oben exist?
The motivation to start Oben Health is deeply personal to our founder, Peter.
A few years ago, Peter’s brother passed away in his sleep of heart failure at 36 y/o. Peter set out to develop a solution that could engage black and brown communities, who are significantly overrepresented in heart disease statistics. Our mission is to improve quality of care, quality of life, and denormalization of sudden heart disease related deaths in communities of color.

Peter launched his first start up at the age of 19 and continued on working for tech companies like Shopify and Iversoft. Carl Swanson
Co-Founder & CTO
Carl is a software engineer with 15+ years of experience developing and managing Cross-Platform mobile applications, Embedded Systems tools, and Healthcare Information Systems. Carl is passionate about holistic health and wellness, and recognized Oben as a unique opportunity to combine these two worlds.
Meaghan McVeigh
Head of Clinical Operations
A Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, she has 10+ years of experience working in some of the most marginalized communities in the Bay Area. Meaghan’s focus is largely on adults, children, and families experiencing high levels of trauma due to systemic stressors. She utilizes Somatic Experiencing Therapy, a highly successful trauma resolution model, that works with individuals in resolving underlying physiological and emotional stress associated with mental health and physical health issues. Meaghan has worked for numerous organizations throughout the Bay Area including Oakland Unified School District, Kaiser Permanente, Sutter, as well as various non-profits working on the front lines of trauma-care. Meaghan enjoys dancing and exploring nature in her free time.
Cyndie Cunningham
Project Manager
A licensed social worker with 10+ years working with individuals and families in underserved communities. She has spent her career focusing crisis work as well as managing entire mental health teams. Cyndie joined the Oben team with a deep-rooted desire to make a social impact on a macro level. On weekends you can find Cyndie at one of the many parks in Brooklyn, NY with her pup, Kali.
Mandy Cai
Designer
Mandy is the creative flair behind the Oben application, she brings innovative ideas and a unique approach to all of the visuals. Mandy is an avid video gamer, and aspires to become involved with artificial intelligence someday.
Kwaku Owusu-Ansa
Developer
Kwaku is a coding champion. When he’s not developing into the wee hours of the morning, he enjoys singing, and gaming. Kwaku helps out at his local church on the weekends, and enjoys listening to all different kinds of music.
